PKAVS Fundraiser
Shopmobility fundraiser's hit the streets
Volunteers and service users at Perth's Shopmobility took to the streets to raise funds for the project that helps adults with limited mobility to access local shops. A team of fundraiser's armed with collection cans took their electric scooters around Perth to raise £401.72 in support of the project's running costs. Thanks to everyone who volunteered on the day.
Norwich Union supports Carers Therapies
Norwich Union is the latest in a line of generous local donors to support new therapy days for carers living in Perth & Kinross. Our Princess Royal Trust Carers Centre has been providing monthly therapy days in Perth and Aberfeldy to offer some essential rest, relaxation and respite. Norwich Union's Pitheavilis Charities Committee supported the cause with a generous donation of £1000.
Care-free carers get holiday break
The summer holidays gave local young carers an opportunity to take a break and enjoy a day of activities sponsored by the Rotary Club of Perth st Johns. Eleven young carers relished the challenge of white-water rafting, climbing and the high rope course at Dunolly Outdoor Centre in aberfeldy. The summer programme offers young carers valuable opportunities to learn new skills, develop new interests and meet other young carers.
Bag Packing at ASDA
On Saturday 5th July 2008, 12 staff and volunteers at PKAVS volunteered their
time to participate in a Bag Packing day at ASDA. After 5 hectic hours the volunteers
managed to raise a fantastic £505. Thank you to ASDA and everyone who
did their shopping at the supermarket and donated to us. Well done to the hard
working and dedicated volunteers!
Parlour Derby raises £881 for PKAVS
The odds were on a great night out on 26 April, as staff at Scottish & Southern
Energy held a Parlour Derby in aid of PKAVS. The event, hosted by Graham Dick,
saw staff bid for fantastic prizes and compete for the star prize of a Nintendo
Wii. £881 was raised and PKAVS offers its thanks to everyone who supported
this fantastic evening.
New staff welcomed to Volunteer Centre
Following support from Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland, The Baily Thomas
Charitable Fund and The Souter Charitable Trust, our Volunteer Centre has established
a new post to support people with mental ill health or learning disabilities
into volunteering. We were delighted to see Alasdair Alexander take up post

Local man raises £500 for Carers
Support
Tony Jackson, son of Carers Support Manager, Margaret Jackson ran the London
Marathon earlier this month, raising nearly £500 for carers support. Training
an average of 70 miles a week in the run-up to the event, 27 year-old Tony took
the Marathon in his stride, coming 37th in his age-group and achieving a personal
best of 2 hours 37 minutes.
Carers Therapies in Aberfeldy
Carers in the Perth and Aberfeldy areas can now enjoy some ‘time-out’
once a month for relaxation and respite. Our Carers Therapy Days, held in the
Gateway, Perth and Aberfeldy Health Centre, also offer an opportunity for socialising
with other carers and talking to our support workers. Full details are available
on PKAVS website.
New Look for Wisecraft
PKAVS’ mental health project in Blairgowrie, Wisecraft, has benefited
from hands-on support offered by The Princes Trust. A team of young adults refurbished
Wisecraft’s kitchen area and created a stunning garden in the grounds,
without any additional cost to the Wisecraft. A big thank you must go to all
involved in this transformation!
