CVS Training Courses

CVS training offers voluntary organisations the chance to get expert advice on a range of topics that will help you to help even more people. As well as using our own training and development team, we sometimes get outside consultants in and all this at no cost to you!

CVS Perth & Kinross are offering training in different ways in 2008. We shall still continue to offer courses of general interest to the voluntary sector, but also offer bespoke training to organisations with specific training needs.

In addition, since trainers Bob Gillespie and Colin Carr have now qualified as PQASSO Mentors (PQASSO stands for Practical Quality Assurance System for Small Organisations), they will be delivering two sets of 2-day Implementing PQASSO training to those organisations receiving 20% or more, or £15,000 or more, of their annual income from / via Perth & Kinross Council (P&KC). P&KC are setting as a funding criterion that organisations with that level of funding from them must implement a quality assurance system, and PQASSO is their chosen system.

Look out for further details of training courses in the next edition of the Bulletin Board, on the PKAVS web site (www.pkavs.org.uk) and in e-mails from Bob or Colin. Other dates have been booked for training on Tuesday 14th August, Friday 26th October and Tuesday 4th December, but courses have not yet been decided. Rates for all-day courses will be £40 per person and for half-day short courses will be £20 per person.

If your organisation would like training for staff, volunteers and/or Management Committee or Board, please check the list of courses currently offered by CVS Perth & Kinross by clicking on the “CVS Training Courses” link above. Alternatively, telephone the CVS team on 01738 567076 for help.

Free Tax Credit Training from One Parent Families Scotland

One Parent Families Scotland is running another programme of training sessions for staff working with low-income families and lone parents. These half-day modules are intended for staff requiring an introduction to tax credits, including updates on recent changes and common problems faced by recipients. This training is suitable for staff who have limited or no knowledge of the topics – if you also require training at a more advanced level please ask if we can provide it or suggest other options.

This training is funded by HM Revenue and Customs in order to help staff in local family support and childcare organisations provide more effective advice and support to parents using their services. The modules have been devised by One Parent Families Scotland based on experience from our Lone Parent Helpline and our local support and childcare services.

Each training day starts with a morning session on “Introduction to Tax Credits”. This gives a basic overview of how the tax credit system works. Afternoon sessions will cover either “Childcare support within Tax Credits” that looks in some detail at the childcare element of Working Tax Credit or our new session on “Overpayments, Appeals and Complaints”. This training is for individuals who have some experience of the tax credit system and who represent clients.

Morning sessions run from 10.00 am to 1.00 pm and afternoon sessions from 1.30 pm to 4.00 pm. Trainees can attend both morning and afternoon sessions if required, although each session is a complete presentation of a topic. All training is supported by a full information pack and trainees receive an attendance certificate for each module.
