The New Carers Act

30th October 2017

The new act will affect all unpaid carers of all ages and can affect unpaid carers now or in the future. This is a new piece of law that introduces a new way of carrying out carers assessments. There is also a new duty on the local authority to give better support to carers to carry on caring if they want to.

Perth & Kinross Council has a duty to set the local carers eligibility criteria framework before 1 April 2018. We are running a consultation on this framework from 30 October 2017 to 11 December 2017. This gives a vital opportunity to have a say on the changes that may affect unpaid carers and the support they get as a carer in Perth & Kinross before the framework is set.

To view the framework and to give your views on the Support for Carers Consultation in Perth & Kinross, please visit www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/SupportForCarersConsultation

This consultation is open to everyone in Perth & Kinross. In addition to unpaid carers we are keen to hear from other people and professionals who might have thoughts on the consultation.

The Carers (Scotland) Act 2016 is coming into effect on 1 April 2018. This means there will be changes to the law that may affect carers and the support carers get.
