Our vision is a Perth & Kinross where people flourish and their communities thrive.

Our mission is to listen to people and their communities, and respond, by working alongside others, to build an empowered and inclusive Perth & Kinross with kindness and wellbeing at its heart.

Our Four Commitments:

A Background to our Vision & Mission

We created our Vision because we believe that people flourish when they are listened to, engaged with, and feel that they are a part of something. They achieve a deep sense of wellbeing, meaning, and purpose, even in the face of challenge, uncertainty, and adversity when they have a say in what happens in their lives.

Communities thrive, when:

To achieve our Vision, the central principle of our Mission will be to ‘Listen to Understand’. All of our people, from our Board Members, to our employees, and our volunteers will be taught to Actively Listen. This involves ensuring that we hear the complete message that is being communicated before moving forward. Only after we fully understand will we be able to respond effectively.

We also recognise that true change cannot be achieved by working on your own. This is why we will continually look to collaborate and work alongside others to create the most impactful changes and positive outcomes that we can.

Additionally, we believe that partnerships are only truly effective if partners are treated as equals, this is why we will always seek to build genuine partnerships built on respect, co-creation, and co-production.

Our Mission emphasises empowerment. To us, this means that everyone, whoever they are, should have a say in making decisions important to them. People should have control over their own lives; we will ensure that people and their communities are given the power to become stronger and have a greater say in the issues affecting them.

Society is struggling to become fully inclusive, even with the significant advances that have been achieved over recent years. This is why inclusivity is a repeated theme in our strategy. It must be at the heart of all that we do, from strategic thinking, to partnership working, to service design and delivery.

Kindness comes in many forms. It is based on values and beliefs; we want to ensure that our Values and Beliefs stem from kindness. From our organisational culture, to our way-of-working, kindness will be central and prominent.

Finally, wellbeing. Whether it is physical, emotional, psychological, or in one of its many other forms, positive wellbeing is fundamental to allow people to overcome challenges, and ultimately, to flourish. Wellbeing will be vital in designing our services and crucial in achieving our Vision.

A Background to PKAVS

PKAVS is a large Perthshire charity helping people to flourish and communities to thrive throughout Perth & Kinross, for over 50-years. Every year, we improve the quality of life thousands of local people, including adults with mental ill-health, young and adult unpaid carers, minority communities, volunteers, the local Third Sector, and older people.

Through support and working in partnership, we help individuals to overcome personal barriers and ensure they have every chance to achieve their goals in life, particularly at the times when they need it most. We work alongside the NHS Tayside, Perth & Kinross Council, Perth & Kinross Health & Social Care Partnership, the Scottish Government, and many others to help as many people as we can to help them flourish and to support their
communities to thrive.

We are a charity with a big heart and a long history of giving, and have been helping individuals and families across Perth & Kinross since 1972. Through our services and support for Unpaid Carers, Mental Health & Wellbeing, Minority Communities, the Third Sector, and Volunteering, we bring support and connections to those who need it most in our local communities, whilst strengthening Perth & Kinross’ voluntary sector.
