Am I an unpaid carer
A carer is a person, of any age, who looks after family members, friends or neighbours who are in need of support. This could be due to illness, physical disability, mental health issues, problems related to being elderly or where there is problematic substance use in the household. Carers are unpaid even if you are in receipt of Carers Allowance as this is NOT considered to be a payment. Although some of the support carers may be offered can vary due to the amount of hours spent caring, you are still considered a carer whether it’s for a few hours a week or 24/7.
