Young Carers Identification Cards

The Young Carers Identification Card enables children aged 5 to 18 in a caring role to be recognised as a young carer, increase the confidence of the young carer to manage their caring role, allow medical professionals to share appropriate information with the young carer at their discretion, and assist schools in identifying young carers and putting measures in place to support them.

For 5-11 year olds it is purley used for identification so a young person can make anyone they wish aware that they are a young carer. For 12 – 18 year olds it gives permission for the young carer to have information shared with them in relation to the person they care for’s medication, diagnosis and prognosis, and permission to collect prescriptions. It will be used in predominantly education and healthcare settings but can be used anywhere else useful for the young carer.
