Scottish Government Cost of Living Support

January 12th 2023, By April Black

The Scottish Government has recently set up a website which aims to pull together details of help and advice available to support people to deal with the rising cost of living:  www.mygov.scot/cost-of-living-support

The site has information on help with energy costs, eligibility and how to claim Pension Credit, Winter Fuel Payment, the Warmer Homes Scotland programme, benefits and maximising your income.

Some additional detail:

  • It is possible to be eligible for Pension Credit even if you have other income, savings or own your own home.
  • For those born before 25 September 1956, the Winter Fuel Payment can mean an additional £250 to £600 to help pay heating bills.
  • Home Energy Scotland administers the Warmer Homes Scotland programme and provides information and guidance on the range of energy saving measures which are available to suit specific needs.  You can call free on 0808 808 2282 or visit www.homeenergyscotland.org

Anyone without access to the internet who is looking for information and advice on these issues can contact the Age Scotland Helpline on 0800 12 44 222.  The Helpline also offers a free benefits check for anyone who is unsure as to whether or not they are in receipt of all they may be entitled to.
