Language Base is a social enterprise that works with businesses, individuals, the voluntary and statutory sectors, helping them to overcome any language barriers they may face by providing high-quality translation and interpretation work.

Our experienced, quality-assured staff are skilled in working in group or individual settings and can provide assistance in a diverse range of languages, including Arabic, Cantonese, Czech, Mandarin, Polish, Slovak and many more. To find out what other languages are available, please get in touch.

Based in Perth & Kinross, Language Base can offer services in your area. This can be done remotely, providing a quick and efficient service.

As a social enterprise, Language Base has the following social aims:

  • To enable Minority Ethnic Communities to access local services with equality
  • To support local business to attract international investment into the Perth & Kinross area
  • To provide employment and skills development opportunities for speakers of other languages within Perth & Kinross

Loneliness and social isolation are associated with a reduced lifespan equal to someone smoking 15 cigarettes per day - and greater than someone with obesity. Loneliness is also linked to an increased risk of heart disease, dementia, anxiety, depression, addiction, and suicide.

Lucia was a young woman from Romania. She approached the Minority Communities Service in January, having heard it mentioned as somewhere safe to go if you need help. Lucia confided in a member of our team that she had been promised a job in the UK but was now being held against her will by the person who arranged her transport and forced to clean his home without receiving any pay.

By working with our contacts at Perth & Kinross Council, the team were able to arrange for Lucia to have a safe place to stay for a few days while she decided what to do next. We supported her to make a report to the police.
