Our interpretation of ‘Drift’ through sounds
February 21st 2025, By alanapkav24We have put together a short video of sounds we created in response to the concept of ‘Drift’.
We discussed the concept of ‘Drift’ in relation to thoughts and how sometimes our minds can wander. This can be for good reasons, maybe day dreaming or problem solving ideas, but some of the time it can lead to negative thought patterns which can be overwhelming and unhelpful.
We all drift every day but we need to learn to recognise when our minds drift and assess if it’s time we should bring our focus of attention back to reality and back to the present. We must learn to notice the drift, acknowledge it and pull it back to the here and now.
We recognised that our thoughts may be like clouds drifting aimlessly across the sky when our focus of attention is wandering. So, in our groups we created a series of clouds with collage, playing around with pompoms, recycled materials, tissue paper and many other materials. You can see these clouds towards the end of the video.
The sounds in this video were created by our clients and how they decided to translate ‘Drift’ into sounds. We played around with different instruments, including a steel tongue drum, a rain maker, a keyboard and some various wooden instruments.
‘Drift’ is included in our programme of self-help and self-development skills from The Decider Skills manual which we’re working through in the creative department at The Walled Garden and Wisecraft.
