PKAVS Loneliness Consultation

June 24th 2022, By Graham Illsley

We recently carried out a consultation to find out more about the effects of loneliness on people living in Perth & Kinross. You can read the paper that we produced here.

Loneliness and social isolation are associated with a reduced lifespan equal to someone smoking 15 cigarettes per day – and greater than someone with obesity. Loneliness is also linked to an increased risk of heart disease, dementia, anxiety, depression, addiction, and suicide.

We had lots of enlightening and thought-provoking feedback that we hope will assist individuals, communities, and organisations to tackle loneliness and improve people’s mental health and wellbeing.

We’d like to thank everyone who took part, your responses will help to address the serious issue of loneliness and the wide-ranging effects and impacts that it has. If you have any thoughts or ideas that you would like to share, please don’t hesitate to get in touch by emailing graham.illsley@pkavs.org.uk.
