Stepping Stones to Self-Care
May 30th 2024, By alanapkav24Our clients here at the Walled Garden and Wisecraft have created some beautiful mosaics using recycled tile pieces. We began by talking as a group to discuss what self-care means to us and what things we might do to create happiness in our lives.
The clients came up with a range of examples, including things like listening to music, going for a walk and seeing flowers, chatting with friends, spending time with pets and baking cakes. We focused on the imagery which comes from these different things and visualised how this could become an individual mosaic.
We then got creative with broken bits of tiles, stones and sea glass to create a colourful and meaningful mosaic. Some people decided to go abstract with their mosaic, following shapes and swirls, whilst others went more realistic and created an image of an object, but everyone just had fun and went for it! We have now placed these beautiful creations around our gardens to act as a reminder to take time for yourself. To take a step back when you might be feeling overwhelmed or anxious and to just do the things you enjoy!
Iain – Guitar to symbolise music
Jazz, concerts, Ricky Ross, songs, musical, enjoyable, happy times, Dundonians, informative, lyrics, Dolly Parton, blues, americana, entertaining, opera
Vickie – Sun Shining on the Daffodils
The daffodils are nice because they have a beautiful colour. They show that spring has started and summer is on the way. The colour of them shines in the sun.
The yellow reminds you that better days are on the way. The colour of the sun. Shine bright like the sun.
Alister – Tea pot
A cup of tea or coffee calms me when I’m down. It is a time I can sit and socialise with my friends.
Nickie – My self-care is going for a drive
I like going for a drive as it gets me out of the house when I’m not feeling great and I can just drive and forget about my troubles for a little while. It makes me feel happy.
David – Lighthouse
The band the lighthouse family helped me through my mental health. When I was in hospital the music kept me relaxed and happy.
