In response to the tremendous show of support from the people of Perth & Kinross, Council Leader, Councillor Murray Lyle, said:

“The communities of Perth and Kinross have a well-earned reputation for caring for those in need at home and abroad. This has been proven once again with the strength of feeling demonstrated across the area in support of the people of Ukraine.”

“We are pleased to have been able to reflect that feeling in some small way by lighting Smeaton’s Bridge and St Paul’s in the colours of the Ukrainian flag at the weekend. I am also really proud to see the way our local communities are rallying around requests for donations to support refugees from Ukraine coming into Poland, with the Polish Scouts ZHP Perth, local Polish businesses, Perthshire Welfare Society and ESOL Perth all involved in collections. From Tuesday 1 March residents can also drop off their donations at Culture Perth & Kinross Libraries.

“Our thoughts are with everyone in Ukraine and those worried about friends and relatives in the areas affected by fighting.”
