The Big Hoose
The Big Hoose provides free essential household items to families with children and young people under 25 who are struggling with the cost of living. From nappies and toiletries to bedding, clothing and cleaning products, the service helps families stretch their income further.
Referring Families
Support workers from over 40 registered organisations can refer families each week. Once requests are processed, we arrange collection or delivery in partnership with trusted referrers. All recipients remain anonymous and are supported through someone they already know.
Donations
We work closely with the Big House Multibank in Fife and receive regular donations from local partners, including Tesco in Perth. The service is based in Perth but supports families right across Perth and Kinross.
Since launching in October 2023, we have distributed over 275,000 items and helped nearly 24,000 families. The impact is real. Money saved on everyday items means more food on the table, warmer homes, less stress and more dignity.
The Big Hoose operates Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 4.30pm. While families cannot refer themselves, support workers can access up-to-date inventories and referral forms each week.
Public help
If you are a parent or guardian of children/young people under 25 struggling to make ends meet to support your family, contact your support service provider and ask if they are signed up to the Big Hoose Project, if so they can submit a referral for everyday household items on your behalf.
If they are not, ask them to contact us.
We can get them signed up to the project. They will then be able to submit a referral on your behalf. Contact: TheBigHoose(at)pkavs.org.uk
