Wellbeing and support in Perth & Kinross

New Guide Helps Perth & Kinross Families Manage Summer Holiday Costs

Families across Perth and Kinross are being encouraged to access support available during the school holidays through Making the Summer Better, a new guide developed by the Perth & Kinross Anti-Poverty Taskforce.

With many households facing increased costs over the summer, including higher spending on food, childcare and family activities, the guide brings together information on financial assistance, childcare options and free or low-cost activities available across the region.

The resource signposts families to a range of support, including Scottish Government family payments, parent support networks, cost-of-living advice, childcare services and activities for children and young people. Opportunities highlighted include free swimming sessions, family sporting activities, craft workshops and other affordable ways for families to stay active and connected during the holiday period.

The Perth & Kinross Anti-Poverty Taskforce, which brings together 15 public and private sector organisations, says the guide has been created to help families access the support they need and reduce some of the pressures that can arise during the summer months.

PKAVS CEO and Taskforce Chair Shaheena Din said: “Summer holidays can be a difficult period for parents who are trying to balance childcare, work and rising costs. Activities and childcare can be expensive, and the pressure to keep children entertained can add further strain for families already managing tight budgets.

People should not hesitate to seek help if they are struggling. There is a wide network of support available across Perth and Kinross, including in rural communities, and organisations work closely together to ensure families can access the assistance they need.”
